The concept of entrepreneurship takes a wide range of definition and its meaning has progressed over the century. To many, it is linked to starting one’s personal business. However, nearly all economists believe that it is more than starting a business.

The word entrepreneur comes from the French word entreprendre, meaning ‘to embark on.’ In a business perspective, it means to start a business. Entrepreneur can also refer to a person who systematizes and administers a business and usually takes the risk for the sake of profit or turnover. He can also be defined as a person with high propensity who pioneers change or anyone who wants to work for himself.

Entrepreneurship vs. Small Business

The terms ‘entrepreneur’ and ‘small business’ are quite alike and can often be used interchangeably. With much commonality, however, there are significant differences between the entrepreneurial venture and the small business.

Entrepreneurial venture is quite different from small business in the following ways:

Innovation – This is the very instrument of entrepreneurship. It provides resources with a new power to create wealth. Entrepreneurship frequently engages extensive innovation further than what a small business might exhibit.

Risk – Risk must be usually high in an entrepreneurial venture. If not, with the enticement of sure profits, many entrepreneurs would be trailing the idea and the opportunity would no longer exist.

Amount of wealth creation – A booming entrepreneurial venture generates substantial wealth, normally in excess of several million dollars of profit rather than simply generating an income stream that replaces fixed employment.

Speed of wealth creation – A successful small business can make quite a lot of profit over a lifetime. But for an entrepreneur, wealth creation often is fast and speedy, for example, within 5 years. Also, the types of business they are engaged in is what basically differentiates entrepreneur activities. Innovation is the key. Every entrepreneur should rely greatly on this. Innovation can be emphasized on the following:
- new organization
- new products
- new markets
- new production methods

When such innovation produces new demand, wealth is created. From this standpoint, one can simply describe the function of the entrepreneur as one of merging a variety of factors in an inventive manner to generate value to the customer. It hopes that this value will surpass the cost of the input factors, therefore spawning greater returns on investment.

So the main differences between entrepreneurship and small business is that the entrepreneur takes a risk and hits the ground running with the intent of immediate, and hopefully massive payoffs, whereas the small business generally starts smaller, with less risk and the income and success builds over time under very controlled planning.

While that might sound very simple and easy, and you might be thinking you already do it, thereís actually a little bit more to it than you think. Rather than us just choosing a goal to go after and going after it, deliberate creation requires a certain focus to succeed.

Many of us think we want something and decide that weíre going to have it, whether itís some type of person or professional success, money, a specific job, a partner or something else. But in the end, we donít get that thing no matter how hard we try. And often weíre left confused as to why it didnít work out as we had planned.

Deliberate creation works with the idea that we truly have to believe in something before it can happen. The person who decides he wants a new car thatís a little out of his price range, for instance, may really want the car. He may be passionate about wanting the car. But most of the times he thinks of the car he also thinks about how heís going to have a hard time affording the car.

Deliberate creation attempts to remove that negative thinking. When you want something but you believe that achieving it is going to be difficult, it becomes difficult. Likewise, if you want something but secretly or not-so-secretly believe that getting it is impossible, then it will be impossible.

When creating deliberately, the person takes complete charge of his or her reality and spends time acting on things rather than reacting to them. Thereís a large focus on action vs. reaction. Where itís typically to get up in the morning with several goals or several tasks in mind that relate to a larger goal, those who practice acting rather than reacting will get up and focus on what they want instead of just reacting to things that happen or need to be done.

When you use this method of going about your day, the main principle is to surround yourself with what inspires you and makes you passionate about life. Itís important to first figure out what it is that you truly want. Itís believed that most people donít even know what it is that they want, deep down.

Once you figure out what youíre most passionate about, then deliberate, also sometimes called conscious, creation removes the obstacles in your way. Much of this happens within yourself, regarding the way you think about things. You learn to believe that things are possible.

Then you learn to focus. Focus is a key term because itís the focus that fans of the method claim make everything good possible. First, whatever your passion really is, whatever it is that you really want, must be believed to be possible. Then, you must focus on it and not lose that focus. The combination of belief and keeping what you want most in focus make up the deliberate creation that will allow you to achieve your dream.

You’re looking at the Internet! You and millions of other individuals are using the World Wide Web for information, entertainment, and communication.

Ever since the introduction of the Web in 1991, it has grown at a phenomenal pace, both in terms of number of users and money invested. And where there’s eyeballs and money, there’s advertising. Advertising on the Internet is a major revenue stream for most of your favorite websites, and this article will trace how it evolved from early efforts to modern multimedia marvels.

The early days of Internet access were dominated by service providers. Subscription services like AOL and Prodigy worked as a gateway to the larger World Wide Web, charging users a fee for access. Slowly, those providers began to leverage their traffic to feature sponsors as well. Unfortunately, because the modems of the era were painfully slow (even the 56KBPS modem wasn’t common back then), ads were pretty ineffective and even simple graphics took forever to load. But the advent of faster modems improved the potential of advertising on the Internet, with more data being pushed to home computers than ever before.

In the late 1990s came the dot-com boom. All of a sudden, Internet access became ubiquitous. Everybody and their mother was hopping online, and services like WebTV made it easy to surf the information superhighway. That period was the dawning of the online super-retailers like Amazon.com, who demonstrated that you could turn a profit by eliminating the infrastructure of a brick and mortar store and running a virtual storefront instead.

Content was also booming in this period, with groundbreaking Web magazines like Word.com and Slate.com producing cutting-edge content that pushed the envelope of what the Internet was capable of. Advertising on the Internet boomed with the introduction of the animated GIF image – now banners and spot ads could move and grab eyeballs from elsewhere on the page.

And after the boom, of course, came the bust. The revenue models for most of these sites was about as flimsy as toilet paper, and when confidence on Wall Street dropped, the vast majority of them went under. The lucky ones sold their equity to other investors and got out with a wad of cash, but more were left holding the bag. After a period of hibernation after September 11th, advertising on the Internet came back with a vengeance as rich media applications brought television-like experience to the computer, and sites like Hulu and YouTube are riding the wave.

What’s next for Web advertising? It’s not for me to predict, but with technology and avarice both speeding forward at a full clip, I’m sure we’ll see for ourselves soon enough.

This is your chance to list what, in your opinion, are the most important attributes required by an internet entrepreneur…

Please share with the community your thoughts and your top 7 by commenting below and starting the discussion.

These are the words of my original post on this subject, but unfortunately after 100 viewings, nobody has suggested their own 7 best attributes of an entrepreneur. This leads me to believe that the subject is popular, but that people are looking for the definition of the attributes.

It therefore falls to me to help the discussion along the way, by sharing with you my own thoughts regarding the 7 best attributes. So here we go…

1. Imagination
This is the first requirement for any entrepreneur. Without this faculty it’s not possible to concieve of, and then formulate, a plan with which to accomplish the desired outcome.

2. Desire
The entrepreneur must have a burning desire, a passion, that will drive them forward, enabling the execution of the plan. Sometimes this may only be by small steps, at others, giant leaps forward. Definiteness of purpose mixed with a burning desire does not recognise failure.

3. Faith And Conviction
You must know that without faith in the plan, or in your own abilities, that the entrepreneur may fail at the first difficult hurdle. Remember. that the loss of one small skirmish does not mean the loss of the battle. Remain focused and convinced that success is ultimately yours.

4. Persistence
Take persistent action to complete each small step of the plan. Form habits that are consistent with achieving your goals. Form a daily routine consistent with promoting the plan.

5. Knowledge And Adaptation
Continually garner knowledge on your chosen niche, then implement any new knowledge, through imagination, by incorperation into the plan. To stay ahead of the game, it is necessary to adapt and to lead.

6. Courage
You must be able to control your mind to such an extent, as to banish indecision, doubt and fear. The first leads to the second thence to the third – Fear. While in this state of mind there is no doubt that your goals will never be achieved. Whether you aspire for financial, material, spiritual, or mental goals, you will need courage, determination and will-power. With these in control, fear cannot get a foot hold in your mind.

7. Generosity Of Heart
Give Before Receiving. This is a basic tenet of living a decent life. Giving makes two people happy

With these attributes there is no doubt the entrepreneur will succeed, but what is success. How do we measure success. Is it by the bank balance, good standing in society, admiration from your peers?

I think this quotation by Raplh Waldo Emerson sums up success nicely…

“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children…to leave the world a better place…to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.”

So now you have my 7 best characteristics of an entrepreneur dear readers, I would like to know yours, so please leave a comment. We all would benefit from the huge knowledge pool that is YOU!

Do you remember the old saying “You get what you deserve”? I’d like to tell you why that ideology is complete bullshit and why “You have to DESERVE what you want” (Thanks Scot McKay).

To get what you “deserve” implies that you should get something before giving. That you are “owed” something in life, or worse – you can steal the results.

Life DOES NOT work that way and to think so only gets in your way.

In order to get anything in life that you want you MUST deserve it. To deserve it means that you did what was required to make your desires a reality.

This all takes place in the realm of self worth – the realm where it’s all about how much YOU are worth to YOU.

In this post I’ll be sharing with you 7 ways to immediately improve your self worth and show you how these improvements will bring about:

more happiness

an increase in wealth

improved health

draw people closer to you

1. A Clearly Written out Goal in Mind.

One of the first things that you need to do in order to improve your self worth is to know exactly what it is that you want out of life. Be specific and unforgiving.

Write down the things like:

what you want to own

places you’d like to travel to

the legacy you’d like to leave for your kids

the house you’d like to live in

the car you’d like to drive

… I could go on forever

You could take this a step further and cut out pictures and make a scrap-book specifically for your goals/dreams.

Once you have a clear picture of what you want out of life you tend to take ownership over those things in your heart and the universe tends to align the opportunities in front of you. Use this to your advantage by spending a little time each day envisioning yourself with all that you desire. See yourself driving that new car or stepping into that new home with you family. Make it seem perfectly real in your mind and take note of what events happen to bring you to that point.

2. Use Metrics to Measure Your Performance

Again, this goes back to number 1. Some of us may have goals but how do we determine whether or not what we are doing is bringing us any closer to those goals?

To do this we must implement some sort of metric by which we can measure our progress.

For example… If I want a $60,000 BMW simply knowing I want one won’t put me in the drivers seat unless I already have the cash laying around. If not, I need to figure out how to get from point A of not having my dream car to point B of laying the money on the table. In this situation I can easily take a look at how much money I’d need to have saved on the monthly basis and for how long. The point is I need to know where I want to go and how much further away I am from getting there.

Without a realistic blueprint as to how you’ll arrive at goal you will never feel that you truly are worthy of getting there.

“Whether you think you can or you can not, you’re right” – Henry Ford

3. Live Like There Is No Tomorrow

Procrastination kills more dreams than action EVER will. Think about how many times you’ve thought of a great idea, yet failed to act on it. Remember… we never look at an action that we DIDN’T take and recall THAT as the turning point of our lives.

4. Believe in Becoming The Best You

Society has a funny way of making us believe that learning is the process of going from pre-school to graduating from some college or university. I disagree.

Learning is the life-long personal development task that God has set before us. Unfortunately we like to see things in an academic sense.

This means some people work hard for an online MBA and others work hard in other academic endeavors, thinking that is enough once they are finished.

Becoming the best you is something best done from an anthropological stand-point. You must be aware as to how people see you and take notes so that you can find creative ways to improve yourself. Whether physically, mentally or socially. Greatness is your highest pursuit.

There should never come a time where you feel as though you are “Good Enough”. The Best never think that way.

5. Believe in Your Heart that You ARE Meant for Good Things

Believe it or not… most people don’t truly BELIEVE that we are deserving of greatness. We take life as it is and allow ourselves to become the victims of lives as the have-nots. Well this is complete non-sense.

Every person on this planet has been given the same access to the universe’s infinite potential as everyone else. The difference is that those that are 100% confident that they are destined for greatness know the secret of manifesting their dreams into reality through the law of attraction.

It all starts with believing.

6. Simplify Your Life

This should probably be up at the top of this list, but anyway… SIMPLIFY YOUR LIFE.

Yes. Success comes to those who give 100% of themselves to realizing their dreams, but that does not mean that things have to be overly complicated.

We like to think that anything worthwhile must be complicated and have a lot of moving parts with all the bells and whistles. We also like to take simple things for granted by giving less importance to them.

Cut it out… I guarantee that if you break any task down to it’s simplest state that you will find getting whatever you need to get done a lot easier and satisfying.

“If there’s an easy way out then take it” – An Entrepreneur’s Advice

I want you to spend a little time everyday thinking about what you can do to make life simpler. Do this in as many areas of your life as possible.

What you will find is that you will have much more time to focus on what’s really important to you and spend less time doing things “for the sake of”.

7. Get Help!

This is by FAR the biggest mistake of all. Not getting help. Just as men loathe getting directions when we’re lost, most people will never ask someone to help them.

Our egos prevent it… like asking for help makes us look weak or helpless.

This is the mistake that keeps most Entrepreneurs from EVER having the kind of success that we truly want out of life.

In knowing your self worth you know that it is more important for you to get help to become better than to do it all on your own.

By reaching out for help you gain a multitude of new opportunities that would of otherwise been unavailable to you like:

new networking opportunities

you gain resources that you can come back to time and time again

you learn new techniques you may have not thought of

you earn immediate access to the experience of your help

save a ton of time on research

Why go it alone when you can benefit from the years of hard work performed by those before you. No need to reinvent the wheel. If there’s something you need help with then get help (period)

I’m sure that there are many more ways to increase your self worth and I’d love to hear from your guys if you come up with any that I haven’t posted.

By following these 7 ways to increase self worth you’ll find that you enjoy much higher confidence, you’ll grow in stature and popularity, your social circle will grow and you will become the person that you were destined to become.

Still, many of you may want to check out information about an online MBA.

Unfortunately we like to see things in an academic sense. This means some people work hard for an online MBA and others work hard in other academic endeavors, thinking that is enough once they are finished.

This morning my cousin tagged me in a FaceBook note. Although I’m already pretty familiar with the book “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, I wasn’t made of aware of his code of ethics until today. With that I think it’s a great piece of work that I’d also like to share with you – my readers.

NAPOLEON HILL’S CODE OF ETHICS

I. I believe in the Golden Rule as the basis of all human conduct; therefore, I will never do to another person that which I would not be willing for that person to do to me if our positions were reversed.

II. I will be honest, even to the slightest detail, in all my transactions with others, not only because of my desire to be fair with them, but because of my desire to impress the idea of honesty on my own subconscious mind, thereby weaving this essential quality into my own
character.

III. I will forgive those who are unjust toward me, with no thought as to whether they deserve it or not, because I understand the law through
which forgiveness of others strengthens my own character and wipes out the effects of my own transgressions in my subconscious mind.

IV. I will be just, generous, and fair with others always-even though I know that these acts will go unnoticed and unrewarded in the ordinary
terms of reward-because I understand that one’s own character is but the sum total of his own acts and deeds.

V. Whatever time I may have to devote to the discovery and exposure of the weaknesses and faults of others I will devote, more profitably, to
the discovery and correction of my own.

VI. I will slander no person-no matter how much I may believe another person may deserve it because I wish to plant no destructive
suggestions in my own mind.

VII. I recognize the power of thought as being an inlet leading into my brain from the universal ocean of life; therefore, I will set no destructive thoughts afloat upon that ocean lest they pollute the minds of others.

VIII. I will conquer the common human tendency toward hatred, envy, selfishness, jealousy, malice, pessimism, doubt, and fear-for I believe
these to be the seeds from which the world harvests most of its trouble.

IX. When my mind is not occupied with thoughts that tend toward the attainment of my definite goal in life, I will voluntarily keep it filled with thoughts of courage, self-confidence, goodwill toward others, faith, kindness, loyalty, love for truth, and justice-for I believe these to be the seeds from which the world reaps its harvest of progressive growth.

X. Because I know that my character is developed from my own acts and thoughts, I will guard with care all that goes into its development.

XI. Because I realize that enduring happiness comes only through helping others find it, and that no act of kindness is without its reward, even though it may never be directly repaid, I will do my best to assist others when and where the opportunity appears.
